KIK- March It’s time for the wearing o’ the green! St. Patrick’s Day is a great day to get together with your friends or family. And of course, you will want to serve some fun St. Paddy’s Day snacks. Here are some neat ideas for eating green! Leprechaun Bread and Gold
Butter (from www.childrensrecipes.com)
· Packaged bread mix or ingredients below for bread · One pint of heavy cream · A pinch of salt · One quart-size jar with tight lid Steps Involved:
Bread Recipe:
Steps: Mix yeast in warm water. Heat milk, sugar, salt and butter in saucepan till warm and butter melts (115 degrees). Pour milk mixture and yeast into large bowl and add green food coloring. Slowly mix in flour - 2 cups at a time. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead gently until the dough is smooth. Divide dough in half and shape each half into greased bread pans. Brush top of dough with melted butter. Let rise until double. Bake at 375 degrees for 40 minutes. You can test your bread by tapping on the crust. If it makes a hollow sound it is done. Makes two loaves of green bread. Shamrock Pudding
Make pudding according to package directions. Add sprinkles. Leprechaun Legs
Spread cream cheese into the celery. Share with a friend. Over the Rainbow Dessert
This dessert you will want to make ahead of time as it will take some time. Use two pans and divide the Jell-O mixture between the two. Prepare the first color of Jell-O according to the package. Be sure and have an adult help with the boiling water. Use ice for the quick set method to speed things up. Pour half of the Jell-O into each pan. Place into refrigerator until almost totally set. Prepare the next color the same way. Pour over top the cold layer. Repeat this until you have used up all your Jell-O colors. When completely set (several hours later) spread whip cream over top and decorate with colored sprinkles. Easy Corn Beef & Cabbage
Cut the Spam into bite size chunks and brown in a skillet with an adult’s help. Cut the cabbage into small chunks. Put the water into a large pot. Add enough bouillon for 8 cups of broth. Read the label to see how much you use. Add the Spam and cabbage to the broth and bring to a boil. Turn on low and simmer until the cabbage is tender. YUMMY SIDEBAR: Definitions:
