PRESCHOOL CORNER -- "Egg Carton Ideas" "Egg Carton Ideas" Ages: 2 1/2 to 6 years I believe strongly is using what we have around the house to create educational activities for our children. We don't need to spend much money on educational toys and curriculum for younger children. Here are two basic egg carton activities for your bright child: SORTING :For the very young, start with sorting objects into the egg carton. Sort by color -- beans, fuzz balls (cheaply bought at a craft store and come in many colors and sizes), marbles, buttons, M&M's, etc. Proceed to sorting things by size (i.e.: buttons, coins and rocks). COLOR MIXING For this activity use a white Styrofoam egg carton. Also gather together three small glass containers (clear), food coloring and a medicine dropper. Fill the three class containers with water and then color the water with food coloring using the three primary colors: Red, Yellow and Blue. Fill egg carton cups with a little water as well. Now show the child how to fill the dropper with colored water and then drop it into one egg cup; add another color and ask what color it made. Let child alone now to mix colors. Yes, in the end the containers will all be black! But your child will enjoy this activity for hours and learn about color combinations.
