May 21 -Today is National Strawberries 'n Cream Day.

Do some fun strawberry activities :

  • Make some strawberry math counters.
  • Make strawberry file folder games. Cut out baskets and strawberries out of construction paper. -Match the strawberries to their baskets. *How many strawberries goes in each basket?, match capital/lowercase letters, math problems and answers, colors, etc.
  • Make a strawberry necklace or strawberry hat. *Instructions below.
  • Find the Strawberries- hide strawberries around for the kids to find.
  • Pin the Strawberries to the Basket.
  • Strawberry Sentences- cut out strawberry shapes and write words on them. Now let the kids make sentences from them.

Cook up some strawberry fun:

Strawberry Recipe Book- make a strawberry recipe book and add your favorites. Cut 2 strawberry shapes from cardstock and then cut the same shapes from regular paper to go between them. Place the regular paper inbetween the cardstock and punch holes at the top of the strawberry or the side and tie with yarn/string or use metal fasteners.

Make some of your favorite strawberry recipes and enjoy. Our favorites are strawberry shortcake and strawberry/banana smoothies.

Instructions for the strawberry necklace and hat.

Necklace-

clay/dough

beads of choice

yarn/string

paint

Take the clay/dough and shape into strawberries and leaves. Punch holes in them so they can be strung later. Let harden and then paint red and green.

Now take your yarn/string and thread on your beads and tie.

Hat-

red and green felt

needle

thread

elastic

black paint or small black beads

Measure the size of the child's head. Now draw that size circle on posterboard and then draw another circle around that one that is 6-7 inches from it. Now you have a doughnut shape.

Cut out around the outside circle and place on the felt and cut 2 of the circles. Now take the poster board circle and cut out the inside circle. Place this on one of the felt circles and cut out the inside circle.

You can do the next step 2 different ways.

Cut a piece of elastic the size of the head.

1. Sew directly onto the felt around the cut out circle.

2. Sew around the cut out circle making a pocket to thread the elastic through and sew the ends of the elastic together.

Take the two red circles and sew together around the outside edge right sides together and then turn.

Cut 2-3 leaf shapes from the green felt and sew to the top of your strawberry.

Use the black paint to make the seeds on the strawberry or sew on the black beads.

 Toss the Strawberries-

strawberry bean bags

strawberry baskets, bowls, boxes, etc.

You can either use plain red beanbags you have or cut strawberry shapes from red felt, sew two together and stuff with beans, rice, lentils, etc.

Now tape different numbers onto the baskets/etc.

Let the kids toss the beanbags into the baskets and add up their score.

Strawberry Farmer- Tag

This is played like tag but the kids carry a strawberry- I make mine from cardstock.

One player puts on the farmer's hat and has a basket/bag to put the strawberries in.

The farmer goes around and tries to get all the strawberries.

Once the farmer gets all the strawberries it is another players turn to play farmer.

Match the Fruit- Concentration

Cardstock

pictures of different fruit

Make a set of concentration cards with fruit pictures on them and let the kids match up the fruit.

The player that finds the 2 strawberries gets a special prize.
